The 9 month session is often a little challenging as your baby needs to be able to hold on to a baby size prop. What happens often is that the baby can do this for a few seconds and then they fall down. A good thing to do is to work with your baby at home to get them to hold on to your sofa or chairs to get them used to it. If you don’t feel your baby is quite ready to stand while holding on for a minute or so at a time, you may want to reschedule the session for a week or two later. If this is the case, just please call as soon as possible, as our schedule is often filled solid for a month in advance!
For this session, most parents do two outfits. Some do just one, but the majority want a little dressier outfit along with a more casual one. Something to keep in mind, the image for the Album at this stage is IN clothing, and will be at the 12 month session also, so it usually looks best to have the same color outfit for the panel at both sessions. This results in a nice color theme to your First Year Album.
At 9 months, your baby may begin experiencing separation anxiety and need a little hugging time. We may see some tears, but don’t worry, not only do we try to wait out the tears, but if they do show, we can clean it all up, unless you want them left, which sometimes parents do request.
We may also experience the 9 month “stare”. Your baby may have been all giggly at the 6 month session, but now just decides to be totally serious. Even though we may have been good friends with your baby at 6 months, all of a sudden, they now may see us as strangers. A little getting warmed up to us again is often how this session begins.
